Meet the Cattle

The Hideout Herd originated in Virginia in 2005. Four of our foundation cows came to us through the Premium Assured Program at a special sale. The fifth came through a private purchase from Soldier's Hill Angus, a farm renowned for their purebred cattle. Our foundation bull was bred there as well. We raised our younger bull and the three younger cows from the first and second generations born to the Hideout. We also have a set of orphaned twins from the third generation, born in April of 2007.

To keep generations straight, Hideout Ranch uses both a numbering system for our signature red ear tags and a thematic naming convention for each "generation". We've used flowers, authors, Civil War battles, among others, but in keeping with the recently-established rule to name all the new residents of Hideout Ranch following a Western theme, the current generation of calves honors Lonesome Dove. In December, we welcomed Clara and Newt.
